Brief information about donor eggs

Donor eggs are germ cells that are obtained from a female donor under a special oocyte supply program at the ADONIS clinic. All donated eggs are properly processed and stored in a special cryobank in the laboratory embryology laboratory in ADONIS.

Reproductive doctors of the ADONIS Medical Center carefully select oocyte donors for medical reasons. The most important requirement is to be absolutely healthy at a young age. This requirement is dictated by the desire to obtain quality and healthy viable oocytes. The younger the egg donor, the more capable of developing the egg.

Many women who do not have the opportunity to get their own eggs in the fertilization program of IVF in the natural cycle may get a chance to become pregnant with a donor egg.

Who needs an egg donor?

Donor eggs are usually used to assist in fertilization of women with reduced fertility, that is, a reduced ability to produce their own eggs. This process is most often associated with age. After 36-39 years, getting eggs becomes more difficult, and the cells obtained do not always function properly.

Among the general indications for the use of donor eggs are:

• low ovarian reserve,
• own oocytes are not viable or of poor quality,
• natural exhaustion of the ovaries,
• the presence of genetic ailments.

What are the main stages of oocyte donation?

In the event that the program of female gamete donation is conducted with “fresh” unfrozen donor eggs, it consists of the following stages:

1. Medicamental synchronization of cycles of the patient and oocyte donor
2. Stimulation of the donor’s ovaries with medication
3. Preparation of the uterus of a female recipient (patient) for future embryos
4. Oocyte collection of a female donor
5. Artificial insemination of the donor oocyte obtained by the sperm of a husband or donor
6. Transfer of the embryo (fertilized donor egg) into the uterus of the female recipient
