What are veneers?

Dental veneers are ceramic or composite lining on the teeth, which helps to restore the beautiful shape and color of the teeth and to protect them from damage.

What are the indications for the use of teeth veneers?

• yellowing of the enamel (as a result of smoking, frequent consumption of coffee, “tetracycline teeth”);
• tooth shape disorders (including inherent);
• teeth color changes as a result of filling, trauma, congenital enamel defects, braces removal;
• increased interdental spaces.

What are the types of dental veneers?

There are two types of veneers:

• Porcelain (ceramic) veneers – they are strong and durable. They can realistically recreate tooth appearance, do not change their color over time. Ceramic veneers are produced only in the laboratory with the help of teeth mold, made beforehand in the dentist cabinet after the teeth were ground. Before veneer is ready, the patient has temporary veneers.
• Composite veneers – their service life is from 3 to 5 years. Their production is carried out in a single visit to the dentist. Dentist grinds enamel on the front surface of the tooth and applies the composite material layer on it.

What is veneers process?

Composite veneers can be produced quickly enough. A dentist grinds the front surface of the tooth, and then applies the composite layer on it and gives it the desired shape.

Making porcelain veneers takes more time and has several stages:

• A dentist slightly grinds the front surface of the patient’s tooth and makes a mold of it;
• Then the mold is sent to the dental laboratory and the patient is fitted with temporary veneer;
• test sample veneers are made in the laboratory – if it suits the patient, then the final version is created;

Finished ceramic veneers are fixed on the teeth with a special composite.

What are the advantages of veneers on teeth?

Veneer teeth have some undeniable advantages:

• Their production does not take a lot of time, especially if it is composite veneers on front teeth – just a single visit to the dentist.
• Durability. Composite veneers can last up to 5 years, and ceramic – a lot longer.
• Veneers provide excellent cosmetic effect, because they do not contain any metal, and other elements that have an unnatural appearance.

The main disadvantage of veneers is that teeth need to be ground when they are installed. Of course, this grinding is disproportionately smaller than the one for the crown installation, but still after removing of veneer teeth need restoration.
